A16 Sunday, January 2, 2022 WiSconSin State Journal 00 1 OBITUARIES Burgette, Donna J. MadiSon donna J. Burgette, age 83, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, dec. 22, 2021. She was born on aug.

9, 1938, in Madison, the daughter of er- nest and delma (Moe) Baumgartner. donna graduated from Verona High School in 1957 and went on to further her education by attending uW-Madison. She married norman Burgette on april 6, 1962, at imman- uel lutheran church, in Madison. She was a member of the red Hat Society in Verona and volunteered for Habitat for Humanity re-Store, olbrich Gardens, the State Histori- cal Museum, and the immanuel lu- theran church where she was also a lifelong member. donna had her real estate license, but worked for the irS and as an accountant for the State Historical Society for 38 years.

donna was a master gardener. She enjoyed reading danielle Steel novels and traveling the country in an rV to visit family. donna often donated blood to the american red cross. She took part in the elder Hostel trips for many years. She was also a member of the Packer Backers and marched proudly in numerous parades.

donna is survived by her sister, Karen (Jim) Fletcher; son, robert (Janet) Burgette; two daughters, Marie (dick) Bach and angela (Jon) Burgette; two stepdaughters, carol Sexton and Sharon lopez; stepson, Jerry (Bonnie) Burgette; five grandchildren, Kay-tee (Garrett) Wilton, Joshua Burgette, chloe Burgette, Holly anderson and thor Burgette; two great-grandchildren, lynlea and abel; and nephew and niece, James and Kelly. She was preceded in death by her husband, norman; her parents; and her stepson, Paul Burgette. a funeral service will be held on thursday, Jan. 6, 2022, at 11 a.m. at GunderSon eaSt Funeral and creMation care, 5203 Monona drive, Madison.

15, 2021. Steve was born on oct. 4, 1963, to richard and lou ann (Schiffmann) Buss in Madi- son. He graduated from Sun Prairie High School in 1982. on May 2, 1998, he was united in marriage to Shawn Strege in Watertown, Wis.

Steve, also known as Hawk or Buzz by many of his friends, grew up in Sun Prairie, Wis. He was an avid athlete in high school, along with his brothers and sister, playing football, baseball, and hockey. He continued to play softball and fast pitch soft- ball for many years after high school for many local area teams. after high school, he worked installing truck scales, delivering supplies for Midwest Wholesale, and was currently employed with aSc1 for the past 33 years as a commercial kitchen cooking equipment repair technician. He loved his Wisconsin Badgers hockey and football teams and the Packers.

His dad introduced him to his wife at a local Sun Prairie hangout. they had been together for 31 year and married 23 years. in true form, last words to the truck driver next to him were safe in this showing his true personality to the end. Kindness matters, be kind. Steve is survived by his wife, Shawn; his children, Jessica Buss and Blake Buss; his mom, lou ann Buss; siblings, tom (Julie) Buss, Bob Buss, Jerry (laurie) Buss, rich (Jacqueline) Buss and Jannell desjarlais; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Calkins, Ronald Lee MaZoManie ronald lee calk- ins, age 87, passed away on Sat- urday, dec. 25, 2021. He was born March 31, 1934. ron was the oldest of three children, born to ray and lenore calkins of Mazomanie. ron met his future wife, Phyllis, while roller skating in Madison in 1955.

they enjoyed roller skating to- gether, entering many dance compe- titions. they were married aug. 18, 1956, and had two children, david and Vickie. ron worked for 38 years until he retired from the Wisconsin depart- ment of transportation. the family enjoyed many vacations touring the Southwest u.S.

He was an assistant scout master for Mazomanie troop 58. He enjoyed refereeing recre- ation and Wiaa level basketball and volleyball. ron enjoyed singing and acting in many of community based theatrical productions. He was involved in the lions club and the Model a restorers club. He and Phyllis traveled the nation in caravan fashion to the national conventions in their Model with new york being their furthest destination.

For 65 years, ron and Phyllis enjoyed their home and yard in Mazomanie. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Phyllis; daughter, Vickie Kalscheur of Madison; son, david of Gresham, and grandchildren, Joshua (emily) and Jacob Kalscheur, all of illinois, Kathryn Kalscheur (Will reinhardt) of Madison, and david and rebecca calkins of Gresham, ore. His sister, Sharon Moore, and brother, Jay Scott, of arizona, also survive him, along with their children. a visitation will be held on Friday, Jan. 7, 2022, from 2:30 p.m.

He was born Feb. 1, 1933, in Paw Paw, to the late Walter and Freida drenkhahn. William married Shir- ley riddle on May 10, 1953, and she passed away. He lived all over the u.S. and in foreign countries while serving our country in the u.S.

air Force. He served a tour in Vietnam and was awarded the Bronze Star. William served over 20 years with the air Force oSi and a member of VFW Post 238. He also worked for 19 years for dane county. William played trumpet and was a member of the union and was a member of the Monday Morning dixie Band and also the lost century Jazz Band.

He is survived by his two children, Gregory (Jill) drenkhahn and Pamela (Michael) West; grandchildren, tera, Heather, Jimmy and cassie; great-grandchildren, Beau, Gregory, rhea, Kaitlin, abigail and ace; and special friend, laurel trainor; and is further survived by other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; daughter, Vickie (clay) doss; grandson, Franco; brothers, Walter and robert; and a sister, lois rock. a funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 3, at creSS Funeral HoMe, 206 W.

4, 2021, at Four Winds Manor in Verona, Wis. She was 93 years old. Jane was born on Sept. 10, 1928, in Hiawatha, the daughter of Brad and dana (Foster) Keith. She attended Kansas university and graduated in 1950 with a degree in geology.

Jane married lorn richard evans. Jane and dick moved to the Wash- ington, d.c., area during the Korean War, where dick was stationed at Fort Belvoir and Jane worked for the u.S. Geological Survey. during this time, they were blessed with two children. as a family, they moved to Madison, in 1960.

during her time in Madison, Jane worked as a secretary at Memorial High School and for the Southern Wisconsin Food Bank. She was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian church and Bethel lutheran church, where she formed lifelong friendships. She was actively involved in teaching the Bethel Bible Series and was active in the Writing academy at the adult christian education Foundation. Jane was also involved in the Friendship Force, both as a host and as an ambassador to several countries around the world. in her free time Jane loved to travel, garden, read, and birdwatch.

She was a big supporter of the crane Foundation and the environmental defense Fund. Jane was preceded in death by her husband; parents; son-in-law, Heinz Wacker; brother-in-law, Gerald r. Petty; and sister-in-law, donna Keith. Jane is survived by her children, anne Wacker and rick (Marsha) evans; grandchildren, laura (Hunter) dorn and corey (rachel) evans; great-grandchildren, oswald, rowan, eddy, Silas, and aila; and siblings, Brad (Marna) Keith and Fran (dave) casperson. Jane was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

Gilman, Gary Glen MadiSon Gary Glen Gilman, age 75, passed away on dec. 29, 2021, at St.

Hospital, after suffering a heart attack. He was born on Jan. 26, 1946, to parents, alonzo and ann (leonetti) Gilman, in Kenosha, Wis. good childhood memories include activities with his many cousins and summers spent on his farm. He graduated from uW-Madison in 1968 with a degree in political sci- ence.

after graduation, he enlisted in the u.S. army, where he served in alaska until he was called home to care for his mother. He worked for the state job service office, leaving after 10 years as a planning ana- lyst. Gary retired in 2001 from dane county Social Services as an income maintenance supervisor. after a whirlwind romance, Gary and Julie married on Feb.

17, 1978, in Madison. they shared a common interest in all things musical; unknown to most, Gary had a wonderful tenor voice. Gary always looked forward to any social occasions, including many with the calhouns where he shared his sense of humor and the fruits of his photographic memory. Gary battled cancer since 2013, never letting it get him down and remaining optimistic throughout. He continued his coffee rounds and made new friends even throughout the pandemic.

Sherman Ave. (608) 249-8257 Graupner, Robert David colorado SPrinGS, colo. rob- ert david Graupner (david) was born May 2, 1957, in Salina, and died dec. 20, 2021, in colorado Springs, colo. He was 64 years old.

david was born to robert Graupner and Barbara Graupner, the fourth of their five children. He grew up in new Jersey, leaving to attend the university of nebraska, where he met and mar- ried tamlynn Smith. they had three sons together, and he was immensely proud of them. His 30- year career in radio broadcasting took him to various communities across the u.S. He and tammy sub- sequently divorced but remained friendly through the years.

He met and married Joanne Bru- ton in 2001 in dallas. they retired in 2009 and lived in northwest ar- kansas and north texas, prior to moving to colorado Springs in 2016. love of gardening included growing many orchids. He also raised and released bees, as well as providing much needed habitat for them. He loved to tell stories, most of which had little basis in the truth.

david was a lifelong dog lover and frequently brought his dog to work before retiring. david was predeceased by his parents, Bob and Bobbie Graupner; brother, Scott Graupner; and sister, Susan Graupner. He is survived by his wife, Joanne Graupner of colorado Springs; ex- wife, tammy Sallows of Madison, sister, nancy Graupner (Jim) of Brewster, brother, Peter Graupner, also of Massachusetts; sons, dan Graupner (amy), Ben Graupner, and neil Graupner (Kelley); and grandchildren, Stella Graupner, Henry Graupner, lemuel Graupner, and baby Graupner, coming in 2022, all of the Madison, area; in addition to several nieces and nephews, an entire family of in-laws, and beloved pets, George and ira (aka puppy and kitty, leon. a memorial service is pending to be held in Wisconsin in late early May. if desired, memorial donations may be made in name to Pollinator Partnership at https://www.pollinator.org/donation-tribute.

Hanevold, Craig A. MadiSon craig a. Hanevold, age 70, of Madison, passed away on tuesday, dec. 28, 2021, at Blackhawk Senior living. He was born on nov.

23, 1951, in Madison, the son of Walter and Shirley Hanevold. craig had a beautiful singing voice and loved music, and he passed that love on to his daughters. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and hunting and was an avid Packers fan. craig had been through many diffi- cult challenges in life, but he never gave up. He loved his family and lit up any time he spoke about his grandkids.

craig is survived by his three daughters, deb (Bruce) Sumter, april Hanevold, and natalie rawls; grandchildren, Morgan, Jackson, Piper, liam, Finn, Sawyer and Violet; three brothers, John and david Hanevold and Brian Frydenlund; sister, Joyce (Jon) Valdez; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his youngest daughter, Faye Haight, who died too soon and whom he talked about meeting again in heaven one day; two sisters, Sherry Moeller and robin Frydenlund; his parents, Walter and Shirley; and his birth mother, dolores Frydenlund. a funeral service will be held at GunderSon eaSt Funeral and creMation care, 5203 Monona drive, Madison, at 12 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 3, 2022.

25, 1942, in Madison, the son of John and eunice (Steward) Hoepker. Jerry married Jane e. Wolf on Jan. 18, 1964, and together they farmed with their children on their five-generation farm in the town of Burke. Jerry will be remembered for his sense of humor, teasing manner and as a generous friend.

He loved farming and was immensely proud of the poultry and hog farm he op- erated with his family. He also loved running heavy equipment and was a member of operating engineers lo- cal 139. Jerry also enjoyed traveling and together with his wife traveled the u.S. and canada in their motorhome, even going as far as alaska. Friends will also remember him for his love of corvettes, cruising the countryside with a good friend or with a club; no matter what you were doing, it was all ways a good time with him around.

Survivors include his children, lorne (terri) Hoepker, John Hoepker and laura Hoepker (Brad Warren); grandson, travis Hoepker; sister, donna lothe; aunt, Virginia Steward; brothers-in-law, tom (terry) Wolf, dudley Wolf, and Jay Wolf; nieces; nephews; cousins; and special friend, Maryann annen, whose love and support allowed him to pass at home. Jerome was preceded in death by his wife, Jane; and parents, John and eunice Hoepker. He will be buried at Burke cemetery, and a celebration of life will be planned for spring. He was born Sept. 21, 1925, to emmet and Mary (Guider) Houlihan in Harpers Ferry, iowa. family moved to Madison, where he attended St.

James catholic School, West High School, and went on to receive a degree in agriculture from the university of Wisconsin-Mad- ison. He married Helen noble on Sept. 14, 1948. they were together in marriage for 72 years until her death on nov. 7, 2020.

they had six children: Michael, Susan, John, Mary, Megan, and cara. Keith enjoyed being with his family and keeping up with Wisconsin sports and politics. His career spanned many years working for oscar Mayer as a cattle buyer and with the united States Farmers Home administration. not content to sit idle at home, he continued to work after retirement for the concourse Hotel in Madison and the Mirage casino in las Vegas. after living in las Vegas from 1999-2005, he and Helen returned to Wisconsin and resided in Fitchburg until May 2021, when he moved back to las Vegas, to be close to family.

Keith, a devout catholic with a generous spirit, lived his life with grace and humor. He was a true irish gentleman. Keith is survived by his children, Michael (Patricia), Susan, Mary (randell), Megan (Paul Jewell), and cara; daughter-in-law, Karen; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, richard; wife, Helen; and son, John. Services will be held privately.

Jay douglas Kruchten, age 47, of lombard, passed away on tuesday, dec. 21, 2021. Jay was the son of Joseph and Kathy (adametz) Kruchten and was born on aug. 14, 1974, in Madison, Wis. He was raised in the Middleton area and was a 1993 graduate of Middleton High School.

Jay attended the university of Wisconsin-Whitewater, where he earned a degree in oc- cupational safety. He was a loyal Packers fan and loved to see his boys play sports, especially base- ball, which he enjoyed coaching the boys in. He always looked forward to his annual deer hunting trip with his father and more recently with his oldest son. Jay found the most joy in traveling with his wife and kids. He is survived by his wife, lisa Saliano; his two sons, anthony and James Kruchten; his parents, Joe and Kathy Kruchten; his sister, Janna (rick) Boehm; his nieces, adelia and Greta; his nephews, Mathias and Kashton; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends that loved him.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, albert and Mahala Kruchten and James and Phyliss adametz; uncles, Steven adametz and david adametz; aunt, Juliette adametz; and cousin, Josh adametz. a private service was held on thursday, dec. 30, 2021, for immediate family.
