During her life, Viola was a county 4-H agent, rural school teacher, farm wife (Mrs Elmer Nelson); parent to Anne, Margaret Nelson of Madison, Glenn and James; foster parent to Debbie Siegel and Vicky; and grandmother to Audy, Bert Johnson of Madison Middlebury Emily Johnson (Pete Hills) of Madison, Lawrence and Janet. Some of her days on the farm were chronicled in her 2011 book, Letters from the Home Front, a compilation of letters that she wrote to her sister, Frances Ellison from 1943 to 1949 The book serves as a wonderful testament to the richness of life in a small community of 36 square miles where the spirit of cooperation and importance of nurturing each individual is paramount. Florence was born in Baraboo on Feb. 10, 1941 the daughter of Gerhard and Josephine Ballweg She was the fourth oldest of 9 children. Florence married her husband of 49 years, Robert Rau, on Nov, 9, 1963 They made their home in Sauk City, where they raised four children. She enjoyed maintaining her flower beds, ATVing with her family and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Robert; her children, Judy (Paul) Spoerl of Greenville, Barbara (Scott) Breumg of Prairie du Sac, Brenda (Bryan) Schwarz of North Freedom and Brian (Janet) Rau of Madison; and her grandchildren, Jessica, Jordan, Allison and Kate-lyn She is also survived by her brothers, Lloyd (Marion) Ballweg, George (Ilia) Ballweg, Eugene (Winnie) Ballweg and Jerry Ballweg; and her sisters, Louise (Eugene) Theis, Elaine (Larry) Adler and Jo (Bill) Hart.

24, 2013, at his home He was born April 20, 1930, (Easter Sunday) in the Town of Lima, Sheboygan County, the son of the late, James and Mary (Carmen) Mulder. Upon graduating from Plymouth High School he and two buddies decided to work their way to the West Coast, stacking hay, threshing, shocking grain, picking potatoes and beets. When they reached the coast they figured they better get back as the draft had started Upon returning home, David entered the Navy. After serving two tours of duty, David began working for Bark River Culvert Equip followed by several contractors in the Madison area and retired from Miller Bradford Risberg in 1995 as service manager In retirement he enjoyed wood working projects for family and friends and traveling both near and far and was known to frequent a casino nowand then He is survived by this wife, Winifred whom he married Aug 16, 1952 celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in Australia in 2002, and this past August, celebrated their 60th Also surviving him is a son, Dale (Kay Thompson) of Stoughton; and two daughters, Tracey (Danny) Gallagher of Stoughton and Terri Mulder of Madison, eight grandchildren, Heather (Jason) Krantz of Cross Plains, Jeremy (Melissa) Mulder and Jesse Mulder of Dod-geville, Kurt (Erica) Mulder, Gilbert, Ariz and Chad Gallagher of Stoughton, Nicole Gallagher of Deerfield, Jason Mezera of Hartford and Beth Thomure of Sun Prairie, and almost 7 great-grandchildren. MCFARLAND Theresa A. Johnson, age 57, of McFarland, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, in her home surrounded by her friends and family. She was born Nov 2, 1955, in Worcester, the daughter of Ann and Phillip Johnson. She spent most of her life employed as a nurse, wholly engaged in the care of others and found her particular calling in service of the elderly.

In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, bird watching, walking, travelling, and spending time with her children. She had an eye for design and art and spent countless years decorating her home as a beautiful reflection of herself and her family. Terry was an adventurous and loving spirit throughout her life and all those who knew her were familiar with her endless compassion and support, especially her children She was fond of all things Irish and was especially proud of her Irish heritage, holding citizenship both in the United States and Ireland. Terry was most at home near the ocean and other places of natural beauty where she could be surrounded by animals and plant life. Terry was a beloved wife, mother, sister, daughter, and friend She is survived by her husband, Paul Nelson, her three children, Colin son, Bridget Crean-Williams, and Sophie Bebeau, her three brothers, Phillip, Peter, and Tim Johnson, her cat, Smokey II, and many loving extended family members and friends She is preceded in death by her mother and father.

Keller, Mary Lou WISCONSIN DELLS Mary Lou Keller, age 81, of Wisconsin Dells, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at the BarringtonOur House in Wisconsin Dells.

Mary was born March 13, 1931, in Madison, the daughter of Logan and Julia (Moore) Bender. In June 1950 she was united in marriage to Richard Keller in Madison. He preceded her in death in December 2009. Mary Lou enjoyed reading, solving crossword puzzles and gardening. Mary Lou is survived by a son, Richard (Kay) Keller of Madison, a granddaughter, Nicole (Ben) Wheeler of Oregon, Wis; grandsons, Rodrigo Keller-Colas of Madison, and Fernando Keller-Colas of Waukesha, great-grandchildren, Ashton and Chayse Wheeler; and a very dear friend, Dorothy Coon.

She was preceded in death by her arents; husband, and a Keller. He was born Jan. 4, 1931, at Mount Horeb. He was the son of Merle and Helen (Brusveen) Kiley He graduated from Mount Horeb High School in 1949. He was married to Dolores Fernandez and they had three sons. Shane (Kristen), Michael (Jill) and Kendall and five grandchildren all of California.

He is survived by two sons; five grandchildren, a brother, Krendall (Angie) Kiley of Madison; and a sister, Laurel (Jack) Butts of Verona; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Joyce; and a son, Kendall. He was born in the family farmhouse in Springdale Township, near Mount Horeb, on Jan 16, 1919, to Namen andThea (Thorson) Offerdahl He died peacefully surrounded by his family on his 94th birthday, Jan. 16, 2013, in Colorado Springs. where he had lived with nis daughter and family for 10 years.

Nor served in World War II, and volunteered for the Army Air Corps the day after the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. He proudly served as an Air Traffic Control Operator for four years in North Africa, Corsica and Italy. One of his favorite memories was sitting in a control tower in Africa with General Jimmy Doolittle for part of a day. Once he returned from overseas, Nor married his sweetheart, Dolores Midthun, on Aug 12, 1945. They were married four months short of 50 years when Dolores died in 1995.

Starting married life in Middleton, Nor's hometown, they moved to Stoughton in 1949 where they both got involved in the community Nor worked as Furniture Manager at Koltes and Keegan for many years and retired from Furniture He served as Second Ward Alderman for 25 years and was also active in Central Lutheran and Covenant Lutheran Churches, among many other local organizations through the years He was very proud of Stoughton and happily showed any visitor around the city Nor enjoyed playing many sports in his youth and enjoyed watching hjs favorite sports teams as he got older He was a big fan of the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, and the University of Wisconsin football and basketball teams. Nordeen is survived by his daughter, Judy Offerdahl (Ron Gados) and granddaughter, Karen Offerdahl Gados, all of Colorado Springs, granddaughter, Rebecca Of-ferdahr Gados Moore (Jonathan) and great grandson, Ewan Offerdahl Moore, all of Hemel Hempstead, England, brother, Thomas Offerdahl (Lois) of Monona, and special friend, Ruth Paulson of Stoughton He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores, son, Robert and brothers Vernon and Glen. 25,2011 Kussmaul, Allen MOUNT HOPE Allen Kussmaul, age 98, of Mount Hope, died Wednesday, Jan. 16. 2013. He was born on Feb. 25, 1914, in Eastman, the son of Rudolph Sr.

and Emma (Allen) Kussmaul. On Jan. 1, 1939, he was united in marriage to Dorris L. Lintner in Dubuque, Iowa They were married 58 years until Dorris' death in 1997. Al and his brother, Rud, built up a seed corn business in Mount Hope, Kussmaul Hybrids Seed Corn.

His favorite past time was working For the past 26 winters, Al made Pine Island, his home. He was a very avid gardener. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, shooting ool, playing cards, and watching aseball and football. Al also had a book published at age 95. based on the diary of his travels at age 17.

The book is "Life on the Bum in the Early 1930's. Al is survived by his daughters, Connie (Paul) Klinkhammer of Mount Hope, and Flynt Kussmaul of Sarasota, Fla four grandchildren, Stacey Martin of Bloomington, Andrew Lucas of Mount Hope, Seth Kussmaul of Madison, and Ryan (Megan) Kussmaul of Patch Grove, six great-grandchildren, Jake, Katie, Destom and Andrea Martin, Kalyssa (Joe) Walsh, and Mason Kussmaul; a great-great-grandson, Bentley; ana special friend, Jean. Above all she was an ever thankful, loving Christian mother who cherished her family, and we are all better persons from having known her. Nelson, age 86, of Dodgeville. passed away on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at Upland Hills Nursing Rehab following a long illness The former Alice Born was born on Oct 26, 1926 in Gorham, to Peter and Della (Dixon) Born.

Following graduation she worked at the St Louis Ordinance Plant during World War II Alice married Norman Nelson on Jan. 16, 1946 The couple farmed in the Castle Rock area until retiring to Dodgeville in 1985 Alice worked at Ben Franklin and World of Variety in Fenmmore and for the Dodgeville SUN. Program for many years. She enjoyed many hobbies and crafts including, fishing, crocheting, sewing, rose-maling, quilting, flower gardening and creating items from the driftwood she collected. Her greatest joy was time spent with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Norman on Dec 24, 1997, a son, Peter on Feb. 7, 1996, four brothers, Ralph, Henry, Edward and Paul Born, and two sisters, Mary Jones and Irene Eastman. Alice is survived by seven children, Geraldine (Brian) Cheney of Ottawa. Ontario, Susan (David) Nie-haus of Platteville, Nancy Nelson of Fenmmore. Wayne (Mary) Nelson of Dodgeville, Barbara (Jerry) Stankus of Janesville, Mark (Joyce) Nelson of New Lennox, and Steven (Heidi) Nelson of Mineral Point: 20 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a sister, Kathryn (Bill) Schimpf of Jerseyville, III a sister-in-law, Faye Born of Edwardsvilie, two brothers-in-law, Bob Fett of Platteville, and Clyde Wagner of Livingston, as well as nieces, nephews and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, at the CASTLE ROCK LUTHERAN CHURCH. Pastor Kathy Jacobson will officiate with burial in church cemetery. Gene, a proud member of the 101st Airborne, was captured on D-Day and spent the rest of the war in a German prison hospital He graduated from Marquette Law School and practiced law Madison and Montello before retiring to Ocala. Fla He was also a clown with the Madison Knights of Columbus and appeared the Milwaukee Circus Parade, hospitals and numerous other parades across the state. A big highlight for him was performing in the Rmgling Brothers Circus Milwaukee.

His unfailing generosity and humor will be missed, but we know he is happy and whole now. telling jokes and pulling quarters out of children's ears 1.
