Thursday, Aug. 28, 1997 The Capital Times 11A DEATH NOTICES Devine, Richard J. OREGON Richard J. Devine, age 53, of Oregon, died unexpectedly at his home on Mon- August 25, 1997. He was born on February 29, 1944 in Madison, the son of Arthur and Eva (Post) Devine.

He was a retired employee of Oscar Mayer and a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the United States Army. Dick enjoyed volunteer work with the bowling leagues in Oregon. Survivors include two sisters, Peggy (John) Leemkuil of Madison, and Patti (Greg) Bender of Viroqua; a brother, Jim (Laurie) Devine of McFarland; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Private family services will be held.

CAREY, OHIO Gladys E. Richardson, age 77, of 420 South Patterson Street, Carey, Ohio passed away on Wednesday, August 27, 1997 at Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center of Findley, after a lengthy illness. She was born on May 9, 1920, in Copper Hill, Virginia, the daughter of Robert J. ana Sally L. (Mills) Wickham.

She married George Richardson on June 4, 1943. She was a former municipal clerk of Carey. She was church Colator for church messenger, formerly in the church choir, formerly in the Order of Eastern Star of Carey, Tops of Carey, Mary Marthas of Christ Lutheran Church, financial secretary of the church and formerly on the church council. She is survived by her husband, George; two children, Mrs. Terry (Susan) McClain of rural Wharton and Mrs.

Jack (Connie) Newman of Madison; two grandchildren, Lara and Chad McClain; and a brother, James Wickham of Tiffin. She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Wickham. Funeral services will be on Friday, August 29, 1997 at 10:00 a.m. at CHRIST LUTHERAN CHURCH. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Carey.

She was born on March 4, 1899, in Milwaukee, the daughter of George and Emma Hansen. She married Cecil "Chic" Mosuch; he preceded her in death on February 15, 1981. Margaret was employed with the Kroger Company for 22 years. She is survived by her daughter, loan (Jim) Kelly; three grandchildren, Tom Kelly, Pat Erickson and Barbara Smith; four greatgrandchildren; four step greatgrandchildren; three step great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband; three sisters, Florence, Orlinda and Edith; and two brothers, Sidney and Carl.

Every other Wednesday Onlyin Gallagher, Jane Marie (Bilkey) BLANCHARDVILLE Jane Marie (Bilkey) Gallagher, age 74, died on Tuesday, August 26, 1997 at the Monroe Clinic Hospital. She was born in Dodgeville on March 14, 1923, the daughter of Clarence and Agness (Urness) Bilkey. She attended grade and high school in Dodgeville and was tremendously proud of being part of the 1941 graduating class.

On June 10, 1945 she was united in marriage to Stanley L. Gallagher in Dodgeville. Jane and Stanley lived in Madison until October of 1951 when they moved to Blanchardville. Jane was at home with her family. She also worked at the Blanchardville Blade-Atlas newspapers; was a waitress at Inga White's restaurant and Aim's Cafe in Blanchardville; and served as the Blanchardville Village Librarian for 15 years, retiring in 1991.

Jane was a member of the Blanchardville Lutheran Church and their Esther Circle, Dob-sonJohnson American Legion auxiliary, a Gold Star Mother, and a 45 year member of Blanchardville's oldest active card club. She was also a die-hard Democrat and a Lombardi vintage Packer fan. Jane is survived by two daugthers, Lois Gallagher of Auburn, California, and Randi (Mike) Kluesner of Marquette, Iowa; two step-sons, Donald (Virginia) Gallagher of Augusta, Maine, and Stanley (Evie) Gallagher of Madison; one granddaughter, Bethany Kluesner; six step-grandchildren; eight step-greatgrandchildren; a sister-in-law, Beverly Bilkey of Madison; two nephews and a niece; favorite cousins, Dorothy Pace, and Jean Scott of Dodgeville, Ron Bilkey of Richland Centter, and Lucille Bilkey of Madison; and many close neighborhood friends in Blanchardville. Gorsuch, Merwyn Wilfred MADISON Merwyn W. Gor-such, age 74, died on Tuesday, August 26, 1997 at the Kar-menta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born July 11, 1923 to the late Wilfred and Tillie (Maginnis) Gorsuch in Dalton, Wisconsin. He married the former Carol Schwan on April 16, 1976 and was a lifelong Madison area resident. Merwyn was a Madison Firefighter for 30 years and was a veteran of World War II, serving his eountiy in the United States Navy aboard the USS Shasta.

He was a mpmber of the Bashford United Methodist Church and the Madison Eagles Club for 50 years. Mr. Gorsuch is survived by his wife, Carol; and his children, Rolrert (Ginger) Gorsuch of Madison, Nancy (Frank) l-evi of Margate, Florida, Dennis of Milwaukee, William, Lynn (Robert) Sterr, and Thomas (Sharon), all of Beaver Dam. Merwyn is further survived by two stepchildren, Sally (Stanley) Broking of Davton, Ohio and Jeffrey (Monica) Jenkins of Madison; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two slep-grnndchildren: two sister, Janet Clemens of Prairie du Sac, and Mina McCredy of Cadillac, Michigan; a brother, Gordon Gorsuch of Prairie du Sac; and his mother, Til-lie. He was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include her sister, Esther Kramer of Scoby, Montana; a sister-in-law, Barbara Karmer of St. Cloud, Minnesota; and ten nieces and neph-ews She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Roy Kramer; and a brother-in-law, Adolph. MADISON Geri Mary Lease, age 64, died on Wednesday, August 27, 1997 at Middleton Village Nursing Home. She was born March 1, 1933 on a farm in Evansville, Wisconsin. She was the daughter of George D. and Eleanor (Dalton) Miller. She was stricken with diabetes at the age of 13.

She was very popular with her classmates in high school and was her class choice as prom queen. She married Charles L. Lease on February 7, 1953 and helped him run Lease Floor Sanding Company. In 1959 they bought Trails End Motel and managed it until 1976 when it was sold. Geri became an avid Chicago Cubs fan after the Milwaukee Braves moved to Atlanta.

She frequently visited Wrigley field and loved to attend the Cubs convention held every January in Chicago, where she got to meet her favorite player, Ryne Sandberg. Geri was a faithful member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church where she met and made many friends. She was also a member of the Catholic Women's Forresters Club and loved to play cards with the ladies when sne could. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles L.

Lease in 1992. She is survived by her husband, Ray L. Lease; a daughter, Debra Ann Lease of Madison; two sons, Thomas Charles Lease and William Charles Lease, both of Madison; a sister, Kathleen (Lawrence) Swinson of Durand, Illinois; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be held at ST. THOMAS AQUINAS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 602 Everglade Drive, at 11:00 a.m.

on Saturday, August 30, 1997. The Rev. Donald J. Murray will officiate. Entombment will be in Resurrection Cemetery.

Machotka, August A. "Gus" FITCHBURG August A. "Gus" Machotka, age 93, of Fitchburg died on Tuesday, August 26, 1997. Gus was born on July 11. 1904 in Mus-coda, the son of Phil and Mary Machotka.

He graduated from Muscoda High School, the Class of 1924. Gus graduated from the Plat-teville Normal School, rural teachers course class of 1927. He taught in rural schools in Blue River Mill and Hickory F'lut, near Muscoda. He married Bernice on July 12, 1932. He finished his adult employment by working for the Wisconsin Power and Light Company, retiring in 1969.

After retirement he was very active in volunteer work for senior citizens. Ho served on the committee of the aging in Fitchburg for twelve years, and commission for aging two terms. Gus was a long time member of the People's United Methodist Church in Oregon. He is survived by a son, Dick Machotka; and a daughter Kay (Jim) Svobda; two grandsons Dan and Bryan; two nephews. Ron (Lois) Machotka and Phil (Cathy) Machotka; and a niece Ruth Ann; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice on February 8, 1995; his parents; four half brothers; four brothers; and two sisters. Funeral services will be held at the IK JTH-GUNUERSt )N FUNERAL HOME, 431 Soden Drive, Oregon at 7:60 p.m. on Thursday, August 28, 1997, with the Reverend Howard Hintzman presiding. of Madison died on Wednesday, August 27, 1997 at his home following a brief illness. He was born on August 9, 1917 In Wheeler, Illinois to William and Emma (Prahl) Miller. He has been a Madison resident since 1946. He worked ns a building engineer for the Jackson Clinic lor 30 years until his retirement in 1979. He was an active member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and the Evangelical Lutheran Synod.

He married the former Helen Rostad on January 10, 1943. He was born on January 23, 1910 in Burt County, Nebraska, the son of John and Anna (Benjes) Welling. He was retired from VVis-consin Electric Coop as an accountant.

He is survived by his wife, Gennith; four sons, Gerald (Pat) of Lodi, Dennis (Ellyn) of Exeland, Alan of Madison and Scott (Cindij of Madison: eight grandchildren. John, Brail, Bob, Mike, Bill, Rich Welling, Patsv Dean and Lisa Welling: a sister, Edith Babcock of Schofield. Zander, Robert BUCK EARTH Roliert Zander of Blai Earth passed awav peacefully, surrounded 26, 1997 at Meriter Hospital, after a long battle with heart disease. Robert was horn In Gross Plains on May 18. 1934, the son of llenrv and Frances Z.nnder. He attended school hI St. Francis Xavier and was a life long memlier.

He married the former Carvl M. Braliender on June 2. 1959. He was honorably discharged from the United Stales Navy in 1961 and farmed all his life. Robert enjoved going to the Lunch Bucket Cafe, playing euchre and going to Ho-Cluink casino.

Survivors include his children. Kendall Zander of Black Earth, Garla (Tonv) Duerst of Madison, William (Marilvn) Z-ander of Blac Earth. Clifford (l-ori) Zander of Black Earth. Rachel (Kevin) Kipp of Gross Plains, and Bernard (Michelle) Zander of Black Earth; a special friend, Barb Plet.er; a sister. Power lifting was one of his true loves, competing at a national level, winning numerous first place trophies. He was well known and respected in the powerlifting circuit for his dedication and strength.

Rocky owned Rocky's Custom Detailing, located on Stewart Street. His hard work and discipline made his business very successful. He took a great deal of pride in making his business the best it could be. Rockys greutest love by far was his precious wife. Krisv, and his children.

Kris was his whole life, wanting to always provide the best he could for her and the children. He was always proud knowing Kris was not only his wife but his very best friend. Their relationship was close and loving. He was so nuppv to know that the two of them would soon have their baby. Rocky's goals and dreams were always with his family first.

To know Rocky was to love him. He had a God given ability to encourage and make people believe in themselves. No words could ever express the spirit of Rocky Peil. His heart and soul shined so very bright. His sincerity is unsurpassed, lie was a proud man and those who loved him were very proud of him.
