In almost 17 years of advocating on behalf of persons with serious, long-term mental illnesses, I cannot remember reading an article in our local paper revolving around persons with serious mental illnesses and their families that seems to contain the ele mental illness(es). Each of us, I submit, would like to get a life that does not include mental illness.

But under present knowledge, research, medications, funding, and community perceptions among some in our society, we cannot. This most recent article indicates our work may take longer and be more difficult to attain than I had thought. Journalistic freedoms are indeed an important element of our democratic society, but journalistic responsibility, along with respect and sensitivity for all persons, including those with serious biologically based psychiatric disorders and their families, is important to the overall strength of our society. All of us in the AMI movement, consumers and families alike, have a life.

She was preceded In death by her husband, Clem Henderson; and four brothers. Cunningham, age 67, died on Sunday, October 3, 1993, at her home. She was bom on July 31, 1926, the daughter of Frank and Ottilia (Welsman) Jesberger. She married Robert Cunningham on April 18, 1953. He preceded her In death 15 years ago. She Is survived by two sisters, Margaret Mell of Sun Prairie, and Florence Suchomel of Stoughton; two brothers.

Art (Margaret) Jesberger of Sun Prairie, and Roman (Estelle) Jesberger of Sun Prairie; and a sister-in-law, Marcella Jesberger of Sun Prairie. She was preceded In death by her parents and her husband. Dommershousen, Joseph J. MADISON Joseph J. Dommershousen, age 79, died at St. Mary's -Care Center from leukemia on Saturday, October 2, 1993. Joe was born December 14, 1913 In Cross Plains, Wisconsin.

He graduated from Middleton High School In 1932 where he participated In football, basketball and baseball. During his high school years he Inaugurated amateurseml-pro baseball and high school sports coverage for southern Wisconsin on a correspondence basis. He joined the Wisconsin State Journal sports staff on a full-time basis In October 1935 and continued his employment there until his retirement In 1979. Joe was affiliated with the Home Talent Baseball League for all of Its 60 years as a reporter, advisor and statistician. He continued to do Home Talent League stats until shortly after he became III.

From 1936 until his retirement In December 1979, Joe did all Madison and area bowling coverage. Many area bowlers and events were noted In his column, Pocket Hits by Joe He was Inducted Into the Madison Bowling Hall of Fame In 1988. He bowled In MBA tournaments, ABC tournaments as well as state bowling tournaments since 1934. He was a member of Sun Prairie American Legion Post, Madison Grieg Club, Madison Bowling Association, and the Bowling Writers Association of America of which he was first vice-president In 1973-1974. He Is survived by his wife, Dorothy; six children from a previous marriage, Rochelle Pinky" (Bob) Mlckelson, Dave Dommershousen, Michelle Mlkkl" (Roger) Popowlch, Scott (Catherine) Dommershousen, Jay (Sue) Dommers-hausen, and Joel (Trlcla) Dommers-hausen; a stepdaughter, Tana Parkinson; 14 grandchildren; many greatgrandchildren; two brothers, Frank (Margaret) Dommershousen of Cross Plains, and Raymond (Margaret) Dommershousen of Madison; and two sisters.

Rose Wilson of Huntington Beach, California, and Evelyn Postorous of Milton, Wisconsin. He was preceded In death by his parents, two brothers, and a sister. Horeb nursing home. The former Gladys Smith was born in Mt. Horeb on October 27, 1909, the daughter of the late James and Mary (Witte) Smith. She was married to Cornelius Fink on March 26, 1932, and they made cheese In several area cheese factories. Mrs.

Fink also worked for Ryser Brothers Cheese Company for many years. She was a longtime member of the Perry Lutheran Church and wos the State Recorder for the Royal Neighbors. She was also a school board member of the Ruste School District for a number of years. Survivors Include six sons. Dr.

Walter (Lorraine) of Rockford, Illinois, Merlyn (Donna) of Cuba City, Cornelius (Helen), Lyle (Ruby), Emery (Diane), and Hugo (Marie) all of Mt. Horeb; two daughters, Darlene (Jim) Lockard of Mt. Horeb, and Ruth (James) Pemble of Milwaukee; 33 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; four sisters, Evelyn Quom and Edna (Walter) Tschantz, both of Mt. Horeb, Inez Zimmerman of Waupun, Wisconsin, and Hazel (Herman) Clark of Indianapolis, Indiana; and two brothers, Glen (Ruby) Smith of Mt. Horeb, and Gene (Laurna) Smith of Janesville.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 5, 1993, at 1:00 p.m. at PERRY LUTHERAN CHURCH, with Reverend T.M. Marks officiating. Interment will be In Sunset Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m.

He was born April 23, 1959 In Madison, the son of Donald and Delores Smyth Peschl. He married Julie Suchomel on June 30, 1989 at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church In Sun Prairie. Bruce was an employee of Retro Technology In Waunakee. He Is survived by his wife, Julie; a daughter, Brittany of Fall River, Wisconsin; four brothers, Donald (Wendy) of Beaver Dam, John (Debbie) of Pardeevllle, Stanley (Gina) of Waterloo, and Brian of Madison; and six sisters, Jackie Nachrelner of Sun Prairie, Jill (Jeff) Benzine of Pardeevllle, and Cindy (John) Suchomel, Sharon (James) Derr, Karen Peschl and Terl Peschl, all of Sun Prairie. He was preceded In death by his parents.

Mrs. Rogers was born In 1895 In Maryville, Missouri. She moved to Seattle, Washington In 1904 where she graduated from the University of Washington In 1915 and received her Master's In Chemistry In 1917. She then went to work at the Dupont Laboratory In Wilmington, Delaware as a chemical librarian.

In 1922, she married Thomas Hunton Rogers, a chemist at Dupont, and they moved to Whiting, Indiana, where Rogers joined the laboratory of the Standard Oil Company of Indiana. Elizabeth Rogers devoted her life to raising two children and making many contributions to her community In Whiting, and, later, In Chicago and Chesterton, Indiana. She was particularly proud of her work In the League of Women Voters, serving on the state board In Indiana. The happiest years of her life were spenf In Dune Acres, Chesterton, Indiana, a small community on Lake Michigan. The Rogers built a log cabin there.

In 1932, where the family spent summers. In 1945, the Rogers moved to Dune Acres permanently, where their home became a magnet for their children and grandchildren. Elizabeth Rogers was a pioneer In the successful battle to make the surrounding area a national lakeshore and testified in Washington before the committee of Senator Paul Douglas of Illinois, the proposals sponsor. In their retired years, the Rogers lived In Scottsdale, Arizona In the winter and then moved there year-round In 1974. Elizabeth Rogers moved to the Oak-wood Village Apartments In 1980 after her husband's death and then to Tabor Oaks at Oakwood In 1992.

She Is survived by her two children, Mary Louise Munts of Madison, and Thomas Hunton Rogers, Jr. of State College, Pennsylvania; her five grandchildren, Lisa Redburn of Montclair, New Jersey, Polly Munts of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Andrew Munts of Radnor, Pennsylvania, Rebecca Rogers of Iowa City, Iowa, and Susan Rogers of Highland Falls, New York; and six greatgrandchildren, Jeremy and Emily Redburn of Montclair, Eliza and Lydia Talen of Minneapolis, and Alice and Thomas Deborre of Iowa City. She Is predeceased by her husband, Thomas Hunton Rogers; her two sisters, Louise and Sara Vinsonhaler; and her brother. Bayless Vinsonhaler. A memorial service will be held at the FIRST UNITARIAN SOCIETY, 900 University Bay Drive, at 4:30 p.m.

MADISON Lillian E. McKiernan, age 75, of Madison, died on Friday, October 1, 1993 in the Willows Nursing Home of Sun Prairie. She was born on December 27, 1917 In Fort Atkinson, the daughter of Allck and Lillian (Schwartz) Doepke. Lillian married Robert E. McKiernan on January 30, 1947.

He preceded her In death In 1982. She was Involved In the restaurant business for over 30 years before retiring from Gimbles as a saleswoman. Lillian was very Involved with Eastslde Coalition for the Aging and enjoyed sharing with friends at Dempsey Manor Apartments her love of arts and crafts. She and her family would like to thank her friends for their visits and kindness.
