Hoffer, a heavy equipment operator in the battalion's company near Hochst, entered the Army last January and completed basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo. Phillip D. Montgomery, 28, son of Mr. and Mrs. John M. Montgomery, Evansville, has been promoted to specialist five while serving with the Third Infantry Division in Germany.

Sp. Montgomery, a mechanic in Company of the divisions 10th Engineer Battalion, entered the Army in June, 1962, and completed basic training at Ft. Knox, Ky. He attended Evansville High School. Hand admitted being in Madison only one time when he stayed overnight here with Leonard Edwards, 35, of Chicago.
