She was born February 12, 1893, in Primrose Township. She was employed for many years at the Burdick Murray Department Store, and later at the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing as a House-mother. She was a member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Madison. Surviving are a sister, Adel of Pasadena, California; a brother, Millard of Clearwater, Florida; two nephews; and a sister in law, Mrs. Bernadine Wallen of Middleton.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas; and a sister, Sadie Wallen. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 12, at 11:00 a.m. at the SKAALEN HOME CHAPEL, Stoughton. Reverend Phillip Vangen will officiate. Burial is at Riverside Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Chapel after 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Olson-Holzhuter Funeral Home Stoughton Zifke, Mrs. James (Maym) BURKEMADISON Mrs. James (Maym) Zifke, age 87, of 3528 Burke Road, passed away at her home on Tuesday, January 8.

1980. She was born in Castle Rock Township, Grant County, on January 6, 1893, and had been a Madison resident since 1929. Mrs. Zifke was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She wos preceded in death bv her husband.

Mr. Berzins was born on May 31, 1911, in Latvia where he obtained his technical secondary and art education. He saw service in World War II on the eastern front and came to the United States in the 50's. For fifteen years he worked for the Beloit Corporation as a designer engineer.

After retirement in 1970 he lived in Monroe and since 1973 in Madison. His paintings have been exhibited locally as well as in Chicago and Minneapolis. Survivors are a daughter of Riga in Latvia. He had worked with the Milwaukee Road Railroad for 45 years, of which he was an Engineer most of that time. He was member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, The Brotherhood of Railroad Engineers for 70 years, he was also an active member of the Senior Citizens Club. Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Elsie Gink of two nieces, Mrs. Jack Rogers of Monona, and Mrs.

Harold Shelton of Kansas; three nephews, Arnold Gink of West Bend, John Schwartz of Madison, and Robert Schwartz of Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1958, and also by four brothers, Elmer, Raymond, Clarence, and Arnold. MCFARLAND Mr. Hartman E. Olson, age 82, of 2387 Woodland Drive, McFarland, died Tuesday, January 8, 1980, at a Madison Hospital. He was a graduate of Stoughton High School, and later attended Ripon College and the University of Wisconsin, where he met ond later married Marjorie Hecker in 1924. In 1939, he moved to the family farm in the Town of Dunn, where he farmed until 1950.

During his yeors of farming, Mr. Olson received many Honorable Conservation Farming and Forestry Awards. He had introduced contour farming into the area, showing other farmers how to increase farm production. Practicing soil conservation, he planted small trees and hedges on his property to prevent wind erosion and was awarded the Department Of Natural Resources Forestry Award in 1960. An avid hunter and fisherman, he was always concerned with the conservation of our natural resources.

Semi retiring from his farm in 1950, he began flying his own private plane, a hobby which he enioyed for many years. He was very active in McFarland Community affairs, where he was a member of the McFarland Lutheran Church; formerly served as President of the Church Brotherhood; was a former member of the Dane County Board of Supervisors, and the Dane County Board of Special Education; and also served os Chairman of the Town of Dunn. He was instrumental in the formation of the McFarland Historical Society Museum, and served as its President. Surviving are his wife, Marjorie; two daughters, Mrs. Tura Hoel of McFarland, and Mrs.

Charlene Fabian of Milwaukee; seven grandchildren; a great grandson; and a sister, Evelyn Gullickson of Madison. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Testor and Lawrence Olson. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 11, at 10:30 o.m. at the McFarland Lutheran church. Reverend Thomas Smrcka and Reverend A.W.

Stolen, will officiate. Burial is in Roselatm Memorial Park. Friends may call at the Church on Friday, from 9:30 a.m.-10:30 only.
