until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Olson-Holzhuter-Cress 206 West Prospect Avenue Stoughton 873-9244 Meyer, Richard E. "Rocky" SUN PRAIRIE Richard E. Meyer, age 72, passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 1999 in St.

Petersburg, Florida. He was born on October 19, 1926 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin to the late Harvey and Eunice Davies Meyer. He graduated from Oshkosh High School and enlisted in the Army in 1944 and served until 1946. He graduated from Oshkosh State Teacher College in 1951 and taught at Tomahawle High School for Tour years. In 1953, he married Marie Zirbel in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Rocky began a career in sales with Wisconsin Physicians Service in 1957 and retired in 1994 after 37 years of service. He was a most avid fan and ardent supporter of his children's varied activities and delighted in his grandchildren. In his younger years, he was an accomplished boxer and football player. He also enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing ana golf. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Harvey.

He is survived by his wife, Marie; three sons, Tim of Stevensville, Maryland, Tom (Erinj of Strongsville, Ohio and Todd (Susanl of Parkville, Maryland; and a daughter, Jane (A.j.) Huff of Three Rivers, Michigan. He is also survived by three grandchildren. Tommy, Riley and Devin; two brothers, Douglas (Jean) Meyer of Oshkosh, and Thomas (Molly) Meyer of Green Bay; and a sister, Joyce Lloyd of Oshkosh; numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. On Saturday, February 13, 1999, family, relatives and friends may call at PEACE EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH in Sun Prairie, from 9:00 a.m. with a memorial service being held at 11:30 a.m.

Memorial funds are being established, which will include the Children's Trauma Center at Bay-front Medical Center in St. Peters heritage as a Black woman and she knew of the struggles of life, but loved living. Her greatest struggle was this past year as she fought valiantly and courageously against cancer. She will be deeply missed her sons, Terrance W. (Rose Marv) Jackson of Madison, Dennis (Cynthia) Jackson of Indianapolis, Indiana; grandchildren, Brian and Kvm of Madison, and Erik and Erin of Indianapolis, Indiana; brothers, Carl (Elnora) Ross of Los Angeles, California, Donald (Dorothy Ross of Compton, California, and Foster Ross of Des Moines, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and a sister, Bette Jean Vincent. A memorial service will be held at CALVARY BAPTIST CHURCH in Milwaukee on Saturday, February 13, 1999 at 1:00 p.m. The Reverend James Leary will officiate. A graveside service will be held on Monday, February 15, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. at GLENDALE CEMETERY in Des Moines, Iowa.

Ernestine's family wishes to thank the Madison HospiceCare and her many friends and neighbors who offered words of comfort and numerous acts of kindness during her illness. He was born on May 11, 1943 in Cassville Township, the son of Walter and Inez (Myersj Joyce. He and his brother, John, farmed together in the Cassville area. Bill was a great outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping as well as gathering watercress and mushrooms. He also liked watching sports events. He is survived by his mother, Inez Joyce of Lancaster; two sisters, Donna Ledbury and Darlene (Bob) Near, both of Lancaster; a brother, John (Janice) Joyce of Cassville; and by nine nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his father and a brother who died in infancy. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday afternoon, February 11, 1999 at the Orvold, Abner Winfield LODI On February 9. 1999, Abner Winfield Orvold, age 91, went to his final rest after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born on October 16, 1907 in Pine Valley Township, near Neillsville, Wisconsin.

He was the only son of Ole and Randi (Seamonsonl Orvold. After leaving the Neillsville area, his family lived in the Kegonsa and Stoughton area. In 1924, the family moved to the farm on Clayton Road, south of Madison, where Abner farmed and raised his family for many years. After farming, he worked for Waterman's Coal and then for what was Four Lakes Concrete, Madison, Wisconsin. Upon retirement, Abner and Margaret enjoyed many winters in Tucson, Arizona, where he loved swimming, golfing and walking in the desert.

On October 2, 1937, Abner was united in marriage with Margaret Naomi Martin at St. Marks Lutheran Church in Madison, Wisconsin. Margaret preceded him in death on February 5, 1996. Abner was also preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Beatrice La-moreux. Abner was the beloved father of Charles (Darlene) of Waukesha, Kenneth (Priscilla) of Lodi, Sharon Myhre of Baraboo and David (Cheryl) of Seattle, Washington.

He was the wonderful grandfather of Charles Orvold, Laurie Morano, Deborah Kavanagh, Kim Helmer, Angela Myhre, Melinda Tangney, Dana Espmoza, and Ga-brial and Benjamin Orvold. He was the great-grandfather of Christopher and Benjamin Orvold, Aubrie Morano, MacKenzie, Erin and Meghan Kavanagh, Jordon Orvold, and Jaz-mine Helmer. He was the very loved "great papa" to Braeden Myhre, Chalee, Chance and Chase Tangney, and Alexandra and Brianna Espinoza. He was also survived by nephews, Paul (Nancy) La-moreux of Pardeeville, James (Deanna) Lamoreux of Houston, Texas; and a niece, Joan (Dennis) Phelan of Madison. He also leaves behind many very special long time friends.

Abner will De remembered as a true gentleman, as well as a gentle man. He was a man of integ rity and honesty and one who never complainea, even in tne lace ot insurmountable obstacles. He loved his family and friends and set a wonderful example for all who knew him. He delighted in playing cards and cribbage. Ostrem, Roger MADISON Roger Ostrem, age 90, of Madison, died on Tuesday, February 9, 1999. He was born on July 13, 1908 in Milwaukee. PORTAGE Helen Shanks, age 95, a life-long Portage area resident, died Sunday, February 7, 1999 at Columbia Health Care Center in Wyocena. The former Helen Louise Messer was born on February 9, 1903 in Caledonia Township to Frederick and Bertha (Mueller) Messer. On November 21, 1923, she was united in marriage with W. Melvin Shanks. He preceded Helen in death on May 26, 1977.

Mrs. Shanks was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Portaee. the Circle Homemaker's Club and the Caledonia Neighborhood Club. Survivors include three sons, Merlin (Eunice) Shanks of Caledonia Township, William (Virginia) Shanks oi Baraboo, and John (Genevieve) Shanks of Lake Delton; 13 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; four great-greatgrandchildren; her sister, Evadine Dolgner of Madison; a sister-in-law, Adel ine Messer of Caledonia Township; a brother-in-law, Joseph Hor-ton of Portage; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Shanks was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Leon Shanks; a great grandson, Anthony Shanks; five sisters; and a brother. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 11, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. from ST. JOHN'S LUTHERAN CHURCH in Portage.

MADISON Joan M. Breidung, age 34, of Madison, died unexpectedly at her home on Monday, February 8, 1999. She was born in Madison on July 8, 1964, the daughter of Keith and Marvel (Aasen) Breidung. Joan graduated from Monona Grove High School in 1982; she attended MATC, where she received a degree in finance and accounting; then she attended Upper Iowa University, where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree.

She worked at New Horizons Computer Learning Center and was a member of the Dane County Humane Society. Joan is survived by her parents, Keith and Marvel Breidung of Cottage Grove; her brother, Jim Breidung of Monona; a niece, Danielle; her maternal grandmother, Marie Aasen of Cottage Grove; her aunts, Marlene (Bill) Stenerson and Loretta (Chuck) Butcher; her best friend, Karen Hol-bach; and her dog, Sheba. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Reuben Aasen; and her grand- Earents, Robert and Evelyn reidung. "Joan, we love you, and you'll be in our hearts forever. Camren, Florence M. DEFOREST Florence M. Camren, age 71, died Tuesday, February 9, 1999 at Meriter Hospital in Madison. The former Florence Stark was born on April 15, 1927 in York Center, Wisconsin, to Otto and Martha (Frentzel) Stark.

On July 7, 1953, she was united in marriage with Odell Camren. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Camren worked for Evco Plastics in DeForest for over 30 years. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in DeForest.

Survivors include her children, Patricia Camren of Pittsville, Wisconsin, and Alvin (Judyl Camren of DeForest, Wisconsin; three grandchildren, Monica Wild, Christine (Mark) Lund, and Neal Camren; three great grandchildren, Jonah, Samuel, and Gabrielle Lund; and other family and friends. Mrs. Camren was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother, and two sisters. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 12, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. from CHRIST LUTHERAN CHURCH in DeForest.

4 Gutknecht, Dorothy K. LONE ROCK Dorothy K. (Stephenson) Gutknecht, R.R. 1, Lone Rock, died Thursday, February 4, 1999 at the Richland Hospital. She was born December 25, 1915 on Stephenson's dairy, honeybee, and maple syrup farm in Hillsdale (Barron County).

She graduated from Barron High School and attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison in thelate 1930s, studying home economics. In 1940, she married Milton, a UW-Madison College of Agriculture graduate. They movef to Hartfordj where Milton SI I the UW-Madison, earning a BA in business administration. Dorothy used her education as partner in the Gutknecht life insurance business. After Milton's death in 1971, she worked for 11 years as a substitute mail carrier with the U.S.

Postal Service on R.R. 1, Lone Rock. She also served as secretary with the Richland County Social Services Department, Richland Center. Dorothy supported nonviolent peace efforts and in 1979 worked on a Managua, Nicaragua coffee plantation work crew as a volunteer. She was involved with the Rockridge Community near Ridgeway and continued to serve on the Board of Directors for the Westfield (Sauk County)Cemetery Association, which maintains and operates the Westfield Church.

For the past 10 years she was involved in a pick-your-own vegetable operation on the family farm featuring strawberries, flowers, red and black raspberries as well as extensive asparagus plantings. In addition to a son, Kent, at home, surviving sons are Karl (Susan Hunt) of Madison, and Kurt (Debbie) of Madison; daughters Jane Kores of New Holstem, and Mary Gutknecht of San Francisco, California; eight grandchildren; a sister, Marjone (Warren) of Naples, Florida; and a brother, Martin (Marion) Stephenson of Chip- eewa Falls. A sister, Elizabeth ulessarian, preceded her in death. A Memorial Service presided by Reverend Cornelius A. Kanhai will be held at 11:00 a.m.

on Saturdav, February 13, 1999 at the GOTHAM UNITED METHODIST Lunch will follow the service in the church basement. Memorials may be made to the Westfield Cemetery Association. Helmeid, Mildred Lenore BLANCHARDVILLE- Mildred Lenore Helmeid, age 86, of Blanchardville passed away on Sunday, February 7, 1999 at the Monroe Clinic Hospital in Monroe. She was born on January 9, 1913 in Adams Township to Anton and Selma (Severson) Larson.

She attended the Loyalty Rural School and graduated from the Blanchardville High School. She married Gilman Helmeid on June 29, 1932 at Blanchardville Lutheran Parsonage. Mildred farmed with her husband Gilman in York Township, Green County for all of their married life. She also washead cook at the Blanchardville school for several years. Mildred is survived by a daughter, Florence (Rocco) Ceniti of Verona; a son, Robert (Carol) Helmeid of Blanchardville; four grandchildren, Cheryl (Mark) Zimmerman of Spencer, David A.

Ceniti of Long Beach, California, Christopher (Carol) Ceniti of Madison, Kevin (Joellyn) Helmeid of Reedsburg; five great grandchildren, Aaron Mark, Ashley Carol, Katelyn Ann, Mitchell Robert, and Brockton Robert; three sisters, Orpha (Robert) Newman of Juda, Laura Belle (Albert) Vinje of Middleton, and Eloise (Stanton) Davis of Madison. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Gilman who died on April 15, 1992. Mildred was an active member of the Blanchardville Lutheran Church and Women of the E.L.C.A. She was a past president of the Ladies Aide; a past president of the Adams Homemakers Group; enjoyed quilting, gardening, crocheting, and sewing; and was a dedicated mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. Huebel, age 71, of Lady Lake Florida, formerly of Wonewoc, died Thursday, February 4, 1999 at his home. Dick was a former Wonewoc business owner. Survivors include his wife, Shirley of Lady Lake, Florida; three daughters, Debbie (Duane) Wolfgram of Kendall, Becky Huebel and Kim Huebel both of Reedsburg; five grandchildren; his father, and mother-in-law, Fred and Erma Briggs of Wausau; and other relatives and friends. Jackson, Emestyne Ross MILWAUKEE Emestyne Ross Jackson, age 81, died in Madison on Saturday, February 6, 1999, surrounded by her beloved family. The daughter of Curtis and Gladys Ross, she was born on November 20, 1917 in Kansas City, Missouri. Er-nestyne grew up in Marshalltown, Iowa, and married George W. Jackson on October 8, 1938; together they raised two sons. They lived in Ottumwa, Waterloo, and Des Moines, Iowa, and moved to Milwaukee in 1965.

At the time of her death, she was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Milwaukee. Er-nestyne worked for many years as a counselor for troubled adolescents, starting at the Polk County Juvenile iiumc, lib muiiies, uiKesiue i.nu-dren's Center, Milwaukee, and she retired in 1978 as a Youth Care Worker Supervisor at Cedarcrest Girls Residence, Milwaukee. Emestyne was devoted to her family and loved family get-togethers on birthdays and holidays, traveling to visit her grandchildren. She was an avid collector of Black memorabilia, dolls, prints, and toys. This was a great part of her life for over forty years and she loved the challenge of searching and finding Black collectibles.

MADISON Lorraine Beld, age 74, passed away on Tuesday, February 9,1999 at a local nursing home.

Lorraine was born on Aprill2, 1924 in Madison, the daughter of John and Clara (Mathison) Mooney. Lorraine attended school in Madison, and worked numerous jobs in the area which included the C. and P. Boot Center and Fauerbach Fine Foods. She was married for over 40 years to the late Fred Beld.

He preceded her in death in May of 1985. She was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church and the VFW Women's Auxiliary. She was a special person who loved to take care of people and make their lives better. She will be missed by many family and friends.

Survivors include a son, John A. Beld of Madison; a brother, Patrick (Joyce) Mooney of Westport; a sister, Del-ores (Clarence) Lacenski of Denmark; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred; a sister, Rosemary (Ruben) Anderson; and her parents. Funeral services will be held at ST. BERNARD'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2450 At- wood Madison, on Thursday, February 11, 1999 at 10:00 a.m.

MADISON Emily G. Berios, age 74, passed away on Monday, February 8, 1999 at a Madison hospital after a brief illness. She was born in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of George and Anna Berios, and she had been a Madison resident for the past 20 years. Emily was a member of the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church where she was coordinator of the activities for senior citizens. She is survived by two sisters, An-geline Berios of Madison, Eva Zia-gos of Park Forest, Illinois; a nephew, Dan (Teresa) Ziagos of Walnut Creek, California; a niece, Nancyanne Ziagos of Steger, Illinois; and numerous cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 12, 1999 at 9:30 a.m. at the ASSUMPTION GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH, 11 N. Seventh Street in Madison. Friends may call on Thursday, February 11, 1999 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

She preceded him in death on February 8, 1979. He was owner and operator of the Perch Tavern in Westport and the Uptown Bar in Mauston. Survivors include a son, Larry (Josie) Blazic of Tavares, Florida; two brothers, Frank Blazic of Sacramento, California and Emil Blazic of Milwaukee; a sister, Elsie (Ernest) Belter of Hav De Grace, Maryland; four grandchildren, Kim (Matthew) Watkins of Centreville, Virginia, Kevin Blasic of Borden-town, New Jersey, Kent Blazic of Orlando, Florida, and Keith (Stacie) Blazic of Nashville, Tennessee; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Sophie Blazic and his parents. Funeral services will be held at ST.

Muskat, Mary Brunner MADISON Mary Brunner Muskat, age 94, of Madison died on Monday, February 8, 1999, at Waunakee Health Care Center following a short illness. She was born on February 21, 1904, in the Town of Vermont to Robert and Theresa (Witzko) Brunner. On October 14, 1925, she married I. Leo Muskat at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Cross Plains.

Her husband preceded her in death on August 25, 1969. She was a charter member of Our Lady Queen of Peace in Madison and was a member of the Senior Citizen Group at Luther Memorial Church. She is survived by five children, Gregory (Mary) of Monona, Mary (Ross) Warne of Ap-pleton, Isabelle (John) Berg of Madison, Ralph (Dona) of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Roger of Reno, Nevada; 18 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; a sister, Rosina Brunner of Campbellsport; a sister-in-law, Hilda Brunner of Black Earth; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Raphael; a daughter-in-law, Donna Jean Muskat; six brothers, Andrew, Frank, John, Otto, Leo, and Carl; and six sisters, Rosa Brunner, Clara Bollig, Anna Bollenbeck, Ida Muskat, and Laura Zander. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 401 South Owen Drive, Madison, at 11:00 a.m.

Nielsen, Patricia STOUGHTON Patricia M. Nielsen, age 68, passed away on Saturday, February 6, 1999 in St. Mary's Hospital. She was born on November 8, 1930 in Stoughton, a daughter to the late Harry and Ruth (Hansen) Nielsen. She graduated from Stoughton High School in 1948, and went on to graduate from Michigan State University.

She retired from the University of Wisconsin State Lab of Hygiene, where she worked in the Cytogenetics Lab. She is survived by Tier niece, Christine (Michael) Cilio of Park Ridge, Illinois; two grand-nephews, Andrew and Timothy Cilio; and her brother-in-law, Robert Fredrickson of Indian Wells, California. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Margaret Bernice Fredrickson. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 12, 1999 at the SKAALEN CHAPEL, 400 North Morris Street, Stoughton.

She was born on December 26, 1931 in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, a daughter if the late Nick and Katina Angelos. She graduated from Beaver Dam High School in 1950. On November 24, 1951, Bess married Leonard "Sam" Marrese in Beaver Dam. Together, they owned and operated London Cheese Cellar until 1988, when they retired to Stoughton. She was a active member of the London Moravian Church.

Bess is survived by her husband of 47 years, Sam; her children, Spencer Marrese, Rosanne "Becky" (Jolm) Probst of Stoughton, Gina (Norbert, Jr.) Studelska of Grafton, and Staci (Scott) Marrese-Wheeler of Monroe; six grandchildren, Nick and Tony Probst, Dustin and Madeline Studelska, and Sky and Daniel Marrese; her sister, Georgia (Bill) Gates of Sarasota, Florida; her brother, John (Marilyn Angelos of Milwaukee; jpnd several.
