Fri to succeed him as acting administrator. Fri, a career government employe who says he is not interested in becoming permanent director, will serve with John Quarles as acting administer. Ruckelshaus was named by President Nixon to head the naCul-tion's top law enforcement agency following the abrupt resignation Friday of L. Patrick Gray III. However, Ruckelshaus said he was only taking the job on a temporary basis until a permanent director can be found.

Ruckelshaus, meanwhile, came to FBI headquarters Monday where he met with the staff and received briefings on many of the several hundred current FBI investigations, including the Watergate investigation and the government's involvement in the Indian crisis at Wounded Knee, S.D. WASHINGTON (P) The Food and Drug Administration today recommended tighter controls on nine barbiturate drugs, including three ranked among the 10 most abused drugs in the United States. The FDA said it based its reclommendations on a Bureau Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs report showing substantial version of amobarbital, secobarbital, and pentobarbital. Six other drugs which would fall under tighter regulatory controls because the FDA said they have "similar abuse potential" are butabarbital, cyclobartalbutal and vinbarbital. The FDA said the nine sedative drugs account for the bulk of the 1.1 billion barbiturates prescribed annually.

The reau said that during the month period ending in April, 1972 more than 7.3 million dosage units were stolen. Barbiturates are both physically and psychologically tive and may be fatal when ingested with alcoholic beverages. Bearded Men 'Quite Repulsive' LONDON (P) The first woman to head the British Guild of Hairdressers said that bearded men are "quite repulsive," look grotesque and are unattractive to most women. "I see more and more men covering their faces with untidy, ill kept beards," Kay Wellstead told a meeting of the guild. "What are they trying to prove? Could it be that they are merely trying to cover up facial defects? Or are they just too lazy to shave?" Miss Wellstead said she favors the longer hair styles for men "but as for wearing them with beards as well definitely no! I find it quite repulsive." Mrs.
