Mullen, Irma DEERFIELDLAKE MILLS Irma Mullen, age 89, died on Sunday morning, September 6, 1998, at the Willowbrook Nursing Center in Lake Mills.

She was born on February 4, 1909, in the Town of Pleasant Springs, Wisconsin, a daughter of the late Alfred and Emma (Christenson) Havey. Irma received her Bachelor's degree from UW-Madison in 1931. She married Lyman Mullen on May 27, 1933, in Belvidere, Illinois. After the raised their children, Irma attended Pe-ahody College in Nashville, Tennessee, where she earned her Master's degree. She then worked in the Janesville Public, Library until her retirement.

She is survived by two daughters, Barbara (Dr. Stanley) Nuland of Brookfield, and Mary Ann Jones of Lynchburg, Virginia; five grandchildren, Siri (Joe) Hernandez of Waukesha, Jane Nuland of Brookfield, Andrea Nuland of Milwaukee, David (Carmen) Nuland of Cross Plains, and Dagny Aiken of Wauwatosa; and six greatgrandchildren, Elisa, Rachel, Anne and Michael Hernandez, and William and Hanna Aiken. She is further survived by a sister-in-law, Elaine Havey of Madison; and nine nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a brother, DeLane Havey. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m.

on Thursday, September 10, 1998, at the DEER-FIELD LUTHERAN CHURCH. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Reverend Larry Sexe will offi-cate. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services on Thursday at the church.

Olson-Holzhuter-Cress Deerfield 258-9527 McFarland, died on Monday, September 7, 1998 in his home. He was a former employee (siding and roofing) of Bob Egerstaffer of Baraboo and Ganser Construction of Madison. Funeral services, with full military honors, will be on Saturday, September 12, 1998 at 10:30 a.m. from the FAITH BAPTIST CHURCH, Black River Falls. Burial will be at a later date in the Melrose Cemetery.

Friends may call at the BUSWELL FUNERAL HOME, Black River Falls, on Friday, September 11, 1998 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until services. Shurbert, Richard Edward MIDDLETON Richard Edward Shurbert, age 68, died on Tuesday, August 18, 1998 at St.

Mary's Hospital. He was formerly of Plover, where he served on the Village Board and later became the second president of the village of Plover before moving to Middleton in 1978. Richard was born on January 26, 1930 in Oshkosh, the son of the late Harvey and Leone Shurbert. He received a master's degree in forestry from Michigan State University. He was employed as a certified public accountant.

Richard was involved with the Boy Scouts of America from childhood, becoming an Eagle Scout and later a professional Scout executive until the early 1970's. He was very active Politically with the Republican arty. Richard was an avid sportsman. He is survived by his wife, Barbara of Middleton; two daughters, Tammee Peters of Houston, Texas and Cindi Shurbert-Hetzel (Donald) of Stevens Point; five sons, Gary (Karen) Shurbert of Plover, Rich Shurbert of Plover, David Shurbert of Houston, Texas, William (Tina) Shurbert of Santa Cruz, California and Ronald (Rhonda Bronan) Shurbert of Plover; a brother, Thomas (Shirley) Shurbert of St. Joseph, Michigan; 11 grand-children; four step children; and his former wife, Grace Shurbert of Plover, the mother of his seven children.

A private family service was held on Friday, August 21, 1998 in Eau Claire. A memorial fund in his name has been established at the Bank in Plover. Slechta, Jerome "Jerry" JEFFERSON Jerome "Jerry" Slechta, age 91, of Jefferson, passed away at the Belmont Nursing Home in Madison on Saturday, September 5, 1998. He was born on December 4, 1906 in Madison, the son of the late Matthew and Anna (Brophy) Slechta. Jerry married Margaret Weissmann on December 26, 1936 at St.

John the Baptist Catholic Church in Jefferson. She preceded him in death on January 6, 1984. Mr. Slechta was an Attorney with the Schultz-Slechta and The Slechta-D'Aoust Law firms in Jefferson. He was a member of the St.

John the Baptist Catholic Church in Jefferson, an Officer in the United States Navy in World War II, a member of the V.F.W. Post 3589, and a member of the American Le- fion Reinhardt-Windl post 164. Mr. lechta was active in the Civil War Round Table, and served on the Board of Directors for Lincoln College in Lincoln, Illinois. He is survived by two sons, Michael (Sharon) of Madison and Dennis of Grapevine, Texas; six grandsons; two granddaughters; and three great granddaughters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, September 10, 1998 at 11:00 a.m. at the ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST CATHOLIC CHURCH in Jefferson with the Reverend Terrence Connors officiating, with cremation to follow. Friends may call on Wednesday, September 9, 1998 at the SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME in Jefferson from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

LACROSSE Curtis J. Storck, age 80, died on Thursday, September 3, 1998. He was born on July 10, 1918 in Madison to John and Marie Storck. Mr. Storck was one of the youngest students to ever graduate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison Law School.

He is survived by three daughters; a son; five grandchildren; a great grandchild; and a sister, Barbara Thompson of Madison. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother. Funeral services were Tuesday, September 8, 1998 at OUR SAVIOR'S LUTHERAN CHURCH in LaCrosse. Memorials mav be given to the Curtis J. Storck Memorial Fund.

The DICKINSON FAMILY FUNERAL HOMES of LaCrosse were in charge of arrange- Church. Myrleen was an avid Bingo player, and loved Jig-Saw Puzzles, reading, traveling, camping, and had a green thumb, and was always there for anybody who needed her. She loved to collect elephants. She is survived by a son. Dean Jarman of Janesville; a daughter, Lela (Jon) Gardner of Janesville; three grandchildren, Josha, Ryun and Dan-nielle; her mother, Lillian Plautz of Edgerton; four brothers, Robert Plautz of Edgerton, James Plautz of Edgerton, Wayne Plautz of William Bay and Dale (Jane) Plautz of Darien; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard in March of 1988, and her father. A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 14, 1998 at 7:00 p.m. at the ALBRECHT FUNERAL HOME, Edgerton, with Pastor Roy Poltrock officiating. Friends may call on Monday from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

at the funeral home. Kletzien, Jean C. MADISON Jean Kletzien passed on Saturday, September 5, 1998. She was born on February 25, 1933 in Racine, Illinois. A long-time Madison resident, Jean received her journalism degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she served on the Daily Cardinal.

She worked for the State of Wisconsin for a number of years. lean had many interests, all of which she enthusiastically shared with others; she enjoyed playing bridge, her cats, travel, walks along the lake, attending concerts at the Madison Symphony Orchestra, bird-watching, working with Reprise Theatre, and creative writing. She expanded her horizons by taking in foreign exchange students from the University of Wisconsin, and made lasting friendships with these students. She was an avid student of history, and continued taking classes on a variety of subjects throughout the years. Jean was also a member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Madison, where she delighted in nurturing students in Sunday school classes there, and served in many capacities for her church over the years.

She served her community by giving countless hours to the Christian Science Reading Room in Madison, a haven of hope and a place to study and contemplate God's word. Most of all, Jean was deeply devoted to her family, a mother, a friend, a mentor. She was a warm and delightful presence to all who knew her, and a shining example of how to live life with love, joy, and understanding. She was preceded in passing by her husband, Robert H. Kletzien; her parents, Leland and Katheryn Cratty; and her brother, William.

She is survived by her sons, Kenneth (San San) of Glen Rock, New Jersey and Karl (Jody Mclntyre) of Madison; a granddaughter, Sophie Lee Kletzien; and a brother, Leland Cratty (Peggy) of New York. A memorial service will be held at the RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 2418 N. Sherman Avenue, at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 10, 1998. Friends may call from 3:00 p.m.

Lockwood, age 86, formerly of Madison, died on Monday, September 7, 1998 at the Good "Samaritan Center in Fennimore. She was born on February 23, 1912 to Jesse and Catherine (Julius) Blackburn. On July 11, 1936 she was united in marriage to Donald R. Lockwood. She taught school in the Dane Public School for ten years and then worked at the Methodist Hospital for 29 years.

She was a lifelong Methodist and a member of First United Methodist Church of Madison, Eastern Star, the Madison Drill Team and many other organizations. She is survived by a sister, Pearl Hipenbecker of Fennimore; a godchild, Donna (Richard) James of Fennimore; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; five brothers; and three sisters. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 10, 1998 at the HAMRE FUNERAL HOME in Lodi.

Reverend Shirley Funk will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Meier, Helen DANE Helen Meier, age 94, died on Tuesday, September 8, 1998 at the Lodi Good Samaritan Center following a brief illness.

The former Helen Hellenbrand was born on September 7, 1904 in Waunakee to John and Helena (Meffert) Hellenbrand. She married Hugo Meier on June 3, 1930 and he preceded her in death on December 9, 1989. Helen was a long time member of St. Michaels Catholic Church and its Christian Mothers Society. Survivors include a daughter, Lois (David) Spahn of Deforest; four sons, Kenneth (Marian), David, James (Bev) and Roman (Sandy), all of Dane; 11 grandchildren; three step grandchildren; two great grandchildren; nine step great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugo; a son, William in 1992; three sisters, Ann Kaltenberg, Elizabeth Karls and Catherine Birrenkott; and three brothers, John, Anton and Matt. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 11, 1998 at 10:30 a.m. at ST. MICHAELS CATHOLIC CHURCH in Dane. Reverend Kevin Holmes and Reverend Laverne Meier will concelebrate the Mass.

Friends may call on Thursday, September 10, 1998 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the WINN FUNERAL HOME in Waunakee where a Rosary will be recited at 8:00 p.m. Friends may also call at the church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.

age 83, died on Tuesday September STOUGHTON Ernest Grabham, Sr. died on Monday. September 7, 1998 at the Skaalen Sunset Home in Stoughton. He was born on March 18, 1910 in LaMesa, California. In 1941, Ernest married Florence Baker.

He served in Germany in World War II. Ernest was a carpenter for Bachmann Construction and a member of the Carpenter Union Local 314. He was a member of the Mazomanie American Legion. Ernest was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church.

Ernest was a Madison resident for 24 years, moving to Stoughton in 1996. He is survived by liis wife, Florence; three children, Judson of West Hills, California, Ernest of Pasiley, Florida, and Kay (Marvin) Lehman of Tomah, Wisconsin; 15 grandchildren; and many greatgrandchildren. Ernest was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jim; a grandson, Jay; three sisters; and a brother. Funeral services will be held at SAINT MARK'S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 605 Spruce Street in Madison, on Saturday, September 12, 1998 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Maiy Pharmer officiating.

Cress Funeral Home 608-238-3434 Hettinger, Bradley MCFARLAND Bradley Joseph Hettinger, age 6, passed away on Sunday, September 6, 1998 at the University Hospital in Madison.

He was born on July 13, 1992, a son of Ron and Kim (Hankins) Hettinger. Bradley had a courageous three year battle with leukemia. His strength through this fight inspired all who knew him. His adoring smile and sparkling eyes will be deeply missed. He is survived by his parents, his brothers and sisters, Ryan 8, Michael 4, and twin-sisters, Christine and Madelyn 3.

He is further survived by his grandparents, Peter and Ruthanne Hettinger of Aurora, Illinois and Andybill and Rhonda Hankins of McFarland; his great grandparents, Francis and Helen Hettinger of Aurora and Beauford Ramsett of Soldiers Grove; aunts and uncles, Matthew Hankins of McFarland, James and Tina (Hettinger! Schultz of North Aurora, Illinois, Mike and Anne (Hettinger) Deutsch of Yorkville, Illinois, Greg and Judy (Hettinger! Hopkins of Creston, Illinois and Joseph Hettinger of Aurora; six cousins, Austin Hankins, Peter, Patrick, Anne and Molly Schultz and Hailey Hopkins; and numerous great aunts and uncles, cousins, as well as his friends at McFarland Early Childhood. He was born in Richland Township on January 19, 1910 to Jesse and Fannie (Armstrong) Holloway. On July 31, 1931 he married the former Lo-rena Helt and she preceded him in death in 1992. Glen was a lifelong Richland County farmer and also worked at Kraemers, where he retired. Survivors include two sons, Glen Holloway Jr. of Prairie du Chien and Jess Holloway of Richland Center; two daughters, Margaret Bell of Rockbridge and Shirley Heried of Richland Center; three brothers, Willard, Marion and Leonard Holloway; two sisters, Kathy Johnson and Josephine Weeden; eight grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and a great great granddaughter.

Friends may call at the PRATT MEMORIAL CHAPEL on Thursday evening, September 10, 1998 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. There will be no funeral service with a private burial in the Woodstock Cemetery. The PRATT FUNERAL SERVICE is assisting the family with their ar-rangements. Jarman, Myrleen F.

EDGERTON Myrleen F. Jarman, age 58, of Edgerton, died on Saturday, September 5, 1998 at the Memorial Community Hospital in Edgerton. She was born on January 20, 1940 in Edgerton, the daughter of Walter and Lillian (Nickel) Plautz. She married Richard Jarman on July 9, 1960. Myrleen lived her whole life in the Edgerton area.

She worked at Nunn Bush Shoe Factory, DO, Edgerton Lamp, Wisconsin Cheeseman in Sun Prairie, and Monterey Mills in Janesville. She was a member of Truty Lutheran r- 1 w. pany for 40 years. He married the former Margaret Coyle on May 26. 1925 at St.

Mary's Catholic Church in Pine Bluff. He served as an usher for Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, was a member of the Holy Name Society, and a former member of the Catholic Knights' of Columbus. He is survived by his son, Bert (Nancy) Die-bold of Cross Plains; son-in-law, Cameron McCarthy of Portage; a brother, Leo of Madison; 13 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; five step great grandchildren; a great great grandchild; along with many nieces and nephews. He was receded in death by his parents; is wife, Margaret on January 20, 1968; his daughter, Beverly McCarthy on November 2, 1992; and a great granddaughter, Meghan Die-bold on September 14, 1995. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Alois and Herman; and four sisters, Catherine Morrissey, Marie Meiller, Margaret Faber and Olive Zach.

Funeral services will be held at OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 405 S. Owen Drive, at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 10, 1998. The Reverend Thomas Kelley will officiate with burial in Resurrection Cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m.

The former Gladys B. Hippe was born on August 21, 1907 in the town of Windsor, the daughter of William and Augusta (Lenz) Hippe. She was retired from Oscar Mayer and enjoyed traveling and playing cards with her church group. She was a member of Eastside Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Mission Guild of the church and Eastside Christian Women. She is survived by her daughters, Audrey (Richard) Gullickson of Waukegan, Illinois and Joanne (Leon) Orvold of Madison; her sons, Marvin (Nipa) Crary of Madison and Darren (Janet) Crary of Madison; ten grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; her parents; and a sister, Ruth Karow. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 10, 1998 in the EASTSIDE EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2310 Independence Lane, with Reverend Kenneth A. Gast officiating. Burial will follow in Blooming Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9, 1998 in the SCHROEDER-CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3325 E. Washington Avenue, and after 12:00 noon on Thursday at the church. Field, Mildred E. MONONA Mildred E. Field, age 85, of Monona, died on September 1998, after complications from a stroke at the Karmenta Nursing and Rehabilitation, Madison. Born in Chicago in 1913 to Hans and Othe-lia Bjerk, she married Philip Field at Madison in 1937. She worked as a crossing guard on Monona Drive and East Winnequah Road for students -of Frank Allis School before becoming cafeteria manager for the Monona Grove High School from 1956 to 1976 when she retired.

She played one of the twelve disciples in the play, "The Last Supper," put on at St. Stephens Lutheran Church, Monona. She is survived by her husband, Philip of Monona; a son, Paul of Nekoosa; and a daughter, Marlene (Dennis) Asay of Hutchinson, Minnesota. Visitation will from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Golden, Antonio Robert MADISON Antonio Robert Golden was born and died on Sunday, September 6, 1998. He js survived by Brown, Ruth M. MADISON Ruth M. Brown, age 57, died on Sunday, September 6, 1998 in her home. She was born on August 30, 1941 in Greenville, Ohio, the daughter of F.E.

and Francis (George) Brown. Survivors include her son, Michael Leonard of Madison; her father of Florida; two grandsons; two brothers, Thomas and William Brown, both of Chicago; two sisters, Diane Blow and Kathy Benson, both of Chicago; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 10, 1998 at the RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 2418 N.

Buehl, age 71, passed away on Monday, September 7, 1998, at her home in Monticello after a four year struggle with cancer. She faced her illness with great courage and determination, refusing to allow her declining health to interfere with her gener ous spirit, sense of humor, and active daily life. Ruth Carol Woodward was born on June 17, 1927 in Spring Grove Township, Green County, Wisconsin, the daughter of Manley and Clara (Johnson) Woodward. She attended Clarence County School and graduated from Brodhead High School in 1945. Ruth married Robert E.

Buehl on January 14, 1946 in Brodhead. They farmed for six years at Route 1, Monticello, before moving to the dairy farm on Marshall Bluff Road, rural Monticello, which has been their residence since 1952. Ruth was a 4-H leader for many years, sharing her exceptional talents in cooking, baking, sewing, and gardening. She was a member of the Zwingli United Church of Christ in Monticello. Her family was always the focal point of Ruth's life.

She is survived oy her husband, Robert; five daughters, Candace (Donald) Price of Schofield, Kristine (John) "Zanoya of Monticello, Karen (Brian) McMahon of Pleasanton, California, Jaclyn Buehl and special friend, Jim Silberschlag of Waukesha and Ro-byn (Kent Pusch) Buehl of Blue Mounds; five sons, Douglas (Wendy) Buehl of Madison, Kevin (Julie) Buehl of Blanchardville, Steven (Julia) Buehl, Kim (Joni) Buehl and Kerry (Elizabeth) Buehl, all of Monticello; 19 grandchildren; a great grandson; a sister, Helen (Fred) Deppeler of Brodhead; and a brother, Merrill (Helen) Woodward of Fitchburg. She was preceded in death by her parents. Cairns, age 74, died on Tuesday, September 8, 1998 at the Lodi Good Samaritan Center. She was born on September 15, 1923 at westmont, Illinois, the daughter of John and Margaret (Shaffer) Hoffman. She is survived by three children, Judith Wopat and James White, both of Lodi, and Jo-Ann Butkas of Madison; two grandchildren, Jerome Chingo-Harris and Joelle Houbeck; two greatgrandchildren, Cassidy and Breezy Houbeck; and a brother, Robert (Charmain) Hoffman. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, September 11, 1998 at the HAMRE FUNERAL HOME in Lodi.

Diebold, age 97 died on Monday, September 7, 1998 at Waunakee Manor Nursing Home. He was born on April 25, 1901 in Madison, the son of Peter and Sophia (Schallenberg) Diebold. He was a Master Plumber with Pha-lumbing arJ Heating Com Pertzborn, John Edwin MADISON John Edwin Pertzborn, age 59, of Madison, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 8, 1998 at an area hospital. He was born on April 27, 1939 to Stanley and Margaret (Jones) Pertzborn in Madison. John graduated from Edgewood High School in 1958, and worked for Renchler's Greenhouse, Mullins Flowers, and was a devoted employee at Watts Landscape Service for 34 years.

John served as a board member for Blackhawk Ski Club, and belonged to Operating Engineers Local 139. He was an avid skier, gifted gardener, dancer, and enthusiastic UW hockey and football fan. He will be forever remembered as a lovine father, proud grandfather and loyal friend. John is survived by his children, Patricia (David) Gaimari of Sun Prairie, Robert (Lisa) Pertzborn of Bozeman, Montana, and Jeffery of Madison; his grandchildren, Henry Hayden Pertzborn and Gerard David Gaimari; his sister, Kay Ellen Scott of Oshkosh; brothers, Mark (Marilyn) Pertzborn of Middleton, and Stanley (Barbara) Pertzborn of Beloit; his mother, Margaret of Madison; his former wife, Marilyn Eck Pertzborn of Verona; his very dear friend, Delores Bryant of Madison; and many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his father.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE CHURCH, 401 South Owen Drive, on Friday, September 11, 1998 at 11:30 a.m. Reverend Kenneth Fiedler will officiate. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

She is survived by her mother, Lois Rivers of Madison; father, Laurence Auls of Ohio; five children, Megan, Mikel, Meshan, Jonathan and Jalea Rivers; a special friend, Mike Kor-nacki of Madison; two brothers, Steven (Marlene) Johnston of Madison, and Don (Jerri) Johnston of Sun Prairie; a sister, Nomi Rivers of Madison; maternal grandparents, Alvin and Bernice Thompson of Mt. Horeb; and eight nieces and nephews, Joshua, Jessica, Jake, Stephanie, Marcus, Annamarie, Caitlyn and James. She was preceded in death by a special friend, Naomi Sabatier. "Red" Saunders, age 69, of Black River Falls, and former long time resident of jraboo and ments. Stumpf, Jazmyn H. PORTAGE Jazmyn "Hope" Stumpf, 5 week old infant daughterof Mar-cie and Jeffrey Stumpf, died on Monday, September 7, 1998 at Children's Hospital in Milwaukee. She was born on August 4, 1998 at Froedhert Hospital in Milwaukee with a very rare heart defect. Jazmyn was immediately taken to Children's Hospital where the following day she underwent a 5 to 6 hour operation to have her heart placed back into her chest.

She came through that initial surgery with flying colors and continued to have surgeries about once a week. Jazmyn was a true fighter in every sense of the word. She continued to surprise the doctors and nurses daily, not to mention mom and dad. She fought right up to the end, her little heart never gave up. She finally was overcome by an infection she couldn't fight off.

Jazmyn died in the arms of her mother and with the comfort of family. Her death was very sudden and unexpected because she had been recovering so well.
