Schools could save millions in energy bills NEW YORK (AP) The nation's schools can cut energy bills up to $2 million a day without increasing their budgets, according to an industry report. Elementary and secondary schools can save 15 percent to 30 percent on annual fuel bills by managing energy use better with a time-shared computer system, the study by Honeywell's Energy Management Information Center reveals. The time-sharing system lets schools share the services of a central energy-control computer and its operators to manage energy use. The computer, linked to a school by telephone lines, operates air conditioners, heaters, lights, boilers, motors, pumps and fans at peak efficiency.

Countrywide, the schools could save from $358 million to $716 million a year by time-sharing a computer without draining operating budgets to buy new equipment, the study Johnson-Hemingway Miss Penelope E.
