Loesing had flown the route and the right engine was throwing oil all during the storm. "That was the toughest time I ever had," commented the pilot, a veteran of more than 8,000 hours. "I guess old Bessie (the plane) just knows the way home." --II irr -ri mi win i COIN rURSE FOUND The police detective bureau today was seeking the owner of a coin purse which was turned in to authorities by an ex-soldier, who found it near the intersection of N. The girls disclosed their dilemma to Police Officers W. E. Randall and Leroy D. Quam about 11.15 p.

m. They did not promise to take care of the baby, they said, but had it thrust upon them by the thirsty parent. They went to the tavern and tried without success to get the mother to come home. Police located the father, from whom the mother is separated, and he took the baby for the night. The case is under Baseball: Riley vs.

week days. The story of an exciting and dangerous plane trip which two men, WPB Chairman Julius Krug and William "Walker, Mr. Krug's assistant and formerly of WIBA, made recently has just reached us through Mr. Krug's father, Julius Krug who, at our request, loaned us a clipping from The Washington, D. C.

Evening Star of July 18. The story in the clipping, carrying a Portland, Oregon dateline, failed to mention Walker, who was with Mr. Krug, but read: WPB Chairman Krug "arrived here last night after his plane had battled unusually heavy weather over the Rockies and the pilot was without radio contact for more than two hours. Mr. Krug, who is making a nationwide tour explaining war production and reconversion plans to industry and labor, left Minneapolis yesterday morning.

The flight to Hillings, was routine. Just west of Billings, however, at the continental divide, the Lockhead Lodestar transport encountered a chain of Jack I.oesing of Washington, reeular WPB pilot, climbed to feet in an effort to get above the weather. Failing in this, he poked the ship's nose into a storm. Snow and hail pelted the plane. The temperature outside was 7 below zero.

Then he turned south along the border of Yellowstone Park to vet out of the trouble. The intended beeline flight from to Portland was off the course followed by airline planes. The 100-mile detour south threw the plane farther off. Static was so bad the radio was useless in this mountain country for more than two hours. During that time turbulence made it necessary for Mr.

Loesing to fly above 15,000 feet in order to keep a safe distance above the mountains. He and his co-pilot, Andrew Boyaj-ian of Alexandria, had masks, but there was no oxygen for Mr. Krug and party. Mr. Loesing finally made contact With a weak radio station at Pendleton.

Oregon. First a message from the station requested that he look out for an army fighter plane lost in the mountains. The weather made that impossible. As it developed, Mr. Loesing I billiard room.

Reichl, 39-year-old Chicago soldier, was hanged early today for slaying an army buddy during a drunken spree at Gualalla, Calif. Reichl's last words were a goodbye to Chicago, the city of his birth, described by the prosecution during his trial as "killers paradise" and "the place where they shoot a man, then step calmly over his body to eat dinner." Reichl had been denied an appeal for executive clemency in the fatal shooting of Pvt. Adam Buch-olz, 35, Dayton, Nov.
